Skilled Defense Against Driving Citations, Including Reckless Driving

If you were recently pulled over while driving on Virginia's roadways and received a traffic citation, you may believe there is nothing you can do except to pay the fine and accept the punishment. The reality is that the fine levied against you is only the start of the potential consequences of a traffic citation. Your auto insurance premiums will skyrocket, your license could be jeopardized and, in more serious cases, you could even face possible jail time.

For more than 40 years, David D. Walker, P.C., has provided skilled criminal defense representation for drivers facing traffic citations throughout Virginia. Working with an experienced attorney who understands Virginia's traffic laws can help you mitigate the negative effects a traffic citation can have on you.

From my office in Salem, I have helped drivers throughout Virginia defend against the full range of traffic citations, including:

  • Speeding tickets
  • Parking tickets
  • Reckless driving
  • Driving without a headlight or taillight
  • Failing to come to a complete stop

Don't Risk Losing Your Driver's License

When determining whether a driver will have their license suspended, Virginia uses a point system. Depending on the severity of the violation, you may receive three, four or six points onto your driving record. The penalties for these demerit points are as followed:

  • Driver improvement clinic: This clinic is mandated if you receive 12 points within 12 months or 18 points within 24 months.
  • License suspension: You will receive a 90-day license suspension if you receive 18 points within 12 months or 24 points with 24 months. You will also receive a license suspension if you fail to complete a mandated driver improvement clinic within 90 days.

In addition to drunk driving offenses, reckless driving violations also carry six penalty points. Driving over 80 mph or driving 20 mph over the speed limit will both result in a reckless driving citation that will stay on your record for up to 11 years.

These points can quickly add up, which makes it critical to treat every traffic citation seriously. I will take the time to evaluate your case to help develop a plan that protects your license and your freedom.
